Hello again! Today we’re looking at some good quality stuff. The Oud Wood beard oil by Tom Ford. Another one I got in the black Friday sales last year from John Lewis, see here. I paid £35.20 for 30ml so it is a pricey product! Let’s have a look
Sorry the box is a bit battered, its been about! For those who don’t know, oud is quite a popular scent and it can get quite expensive. A good quality oud scented eau de parfum is easily £150+. For example, the Tom Ford Oud Wood Private Blend is £176 for 50ml! Fuck me, right?
The Perfume Shop have done a little write up on where oud comes from: Oud is derived from the tropical agar tree and can be found naturally growing in the Middle East and it is thought to have originated in Assam, India. When the agar tree becomes infected by a mould called phialophora parasitica the tree produces a dark, dense and fragrant resin to protect itself. It is the resin which becomes embedded in the tree that is the source of oud. Isn’t nature clever?
You damn right that’s clever! The smell is obviously quite woody and warm, and you probably won’t like it first time round. I didn’t, but it definitely grew on me! I think I was in John Lewis a few months ago and sprayed the Acqua Di Parma Oud eau de parfum and couldn’t stand it! As the day progressed, the scent developed and it grew on me. I think I ordered it the next day. Oud is definitely a scent you’ll need to be patient with but you won’t regret it!
The key ingredients are as follows: grape seed oil, sweet almond oil and jojoba oil. Nothing groundbreaking or special, quite a basic blend of oils. It’s almost hard to justify the price tag. If it wasn’t for the scent, it would be an average product. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good product but it isn’t great value for money.

The bottle has a twist lock so it’s wash bag safe. No nice smelling leaks! About 4-5 pumps will give a good amout of oil for a longer sized beard. For stubble, perhaps 1-2. So it can potentially last quite a long time.
Overall, this is an average product which is saved by it’s scent. If you’re a fan of oud then you will enjoy this product. Otherwise, skip!
