HELLO! Trying to be a bit frugal and more strict with my eating so I been cutting out a lot of unnecessary calories whilst keeping the cost down. I’d eat steak and asparagus every day if I could!
What I’ve been eating a lot of recently is pork! Pork is great. Bacon is great. Pork chops are basically fat bacon. Which is bacon but better. The whole lunch has a pork steak, broccoli and creamed spinach. What you’ll need is pork steaks, broccoli, spinach and cream cheese.

£6 for 2 lunches isn’t bad! And it’s Waitrose. It actually works out a bit less because I didn’t use all the cream cheese.
As well as the things I bought, I used butter, salt, pepper and chilli flakes. Most people will have these already.
As for cooking this meal, you’ll need 2 frying pans and 1 pot to boil the broccoli. I’d recommend a large pan for the creamed spinach as you’ll find out later.
I’ll break it down food by food
Creamed Spinach
Creamed spinach. Spinach and creamed cheese. I can live off this. First things first, depending on what spinach you buy, you may need to wash it. Generally, only salad bags are pre washed. I used to cut the spinach before but it’s nice when it’s uncut.
Melt some butter in a pan. Let it cover the whole thing. Then start adding in spinach. Depending on what size pan you have, you may need to add it little by little. I managed to get the whole 450g bag in at once.
Let it wilt a bit, then season with salt and pepper (and chilli flakes if you want a bit of a kick)
It should hopefully look something like that. If there is any water in the pan, drain as much as you can off and cook off the rest.
Add the cream cheese and stir it in. I used 1/3 of the tub which is roughly 83g. I’ll go through a calorie and macro breakdown at the end.
Creamed spinach done!
Broccoli
I really don’t know how to make this exciting, so I’ll keep it brief.
Boil kettle and pour into pot.
Cut your broccoli however you like
Chuck it in. Let it boil. Add a bit of salt.
Pork Steaks
Normally, I’d get the more expensive pork steaks but I thought I’d try these and bring the cost down a bit.
Melt a bit of butter in a pan, keep it medium heat. If you want, you can use chilli infused olive oil for an extra kick! Might be a bit too much with the chilli flakes though.
Whilst it’s melting, you can season one side of the pork.
The usual. Chilli flakes almost choked me out when cooking! So be careful lol. Wack them in the pan seasoned side down and season the other side.
Cook them about 5 minutes each side. Use a spoon to scoop up and fluids and pour it back on for more flavour.
Sear the fat to get more juices out. More juice=more flavour.
And that’s it!
Finish it off with your condiment of choice. I’d recommend a chilli sauce or a barbecue sauce.
Calorie Breakdown
The lunch is roughly 450 calories. It’ll vary on steak size, and how much broccoli you use, and how you divide it up when you put them into lunch boxes. I didn’t weight anything so it’s a rough guideline.
All in all, quite a filling lunch with not a great deal of calories. Low carb and low sugar. Perfect for ketogenic diets. It’s fresh, it’s homemade. It’s delicious!
Currently trying to stay under 1600 calories a day. I have 2-3 boiled eggs for breakfast, some meat and veg for lunch, and I just freestyle dinner.
Enjoy!
